Symplified CTO to Discuss Cloud Control for SaaS at SHARE Conference
BOULDER, Colo., March 9, 2010 – Symplified, the Cloud Security Company, today announced that founder and CTO Darren Platt will present a session on Cloud Control for SaaS at the SHARE Conference for IBM customers in Seattle on March 15. Mr. Platt was invited to discuss the technical and organizational challenges that must be addressed to maintain cloud control and integrate user repositories from IBM datacenters to simplify the enforcement of security policies and enable federated single sign-on (SSO) to multiple cloud applications.
Organizations are rushing to the cloud. This is creating complex new challenges for managing access, security, and audit. One example is SSO. In a typical enterprise, employees must remember between seven and 30 different passwords and may be required to change them as frequently as every 30 days. Users often resort to “sticky note” techniques to remember their passwords, which results in weakened corporate security. For IT staffs, connecting today’s mixed SaaS and enterprise environments with an increasingly mobile workforce is a security, not just a convenience imperative.
Mr. Platt will explain:
- How cloud applications are disrupting traditional approaches to the 4As: Access Control, Authentication, Administration/Provisioning, and Auditing
- The risk, security and audit challenges created by cloud applications and platforms
- The challenges and roadblocks for integrating existing IBM identity and access management infrastructures with the cloud
- The role of HTTP Federation in bridging internal infrastructures with external cloud resources for SSO.
- Discuss the role of standards in cloud security, including SAML, HTTP, SPML, and SOAP
- Present a functional cloud security and audit reference model
“For many organizations, especially larger IBM customers, the rapid adoption of cloud services is threatening to punch holes in their data center security infrastructure and create an audit blind spot,” said Darren Platt, founder and CTO of Symplified. “I will explain the specific security and audit challenges imposed by cloud services and present a reference model to extend controls, enforce policy, enable single sign-on, and monitor usage of resources that reside outside the firewall.”
