Symplified CEO to Discuss Why Federation is Dead at Digital ID World Conference
WHO: Eric Oldenis co-founder and CEO of Symplified and a recognized expert on identity management. In 2000 he co-authored the AuthXML specification, which served as the foundation for the SAML identity federation standard. He is considered one of the founding fathers of federation. Previously, Mr. Olden was founder and CTO of Securant|ClearTrust, a pioneer in Web Access Control and User Provisioning, which was acquired by RSA Security. He has 15 years of experience in identity and access management (IAM) and was awarded a US Patent for his innovative designs for securing Web 1.0. Mr. Olden founded Symplified in 2006 to meet the IAM and security challenges of the Cloud.
WHAT: Since its inception, SAML was designed to enable one-to-one federation between organizations, a task it does well. However, Cloud computing has changed the game and is redefining scalability requirements. This shift is placing unanticipated pressures on SAML’s architecture, which was designed for pre-Cloud environments. Cost, complexity and lack of ubiquity has kept SAML from reaching Cloud-scale adoption levels. Meanwhile, security breaches in the Cloud have shown how critical managing access and identity remains for enterprises. In this session at Digital ID World, Mr. Olden will discuss:
- The technical and practical limitations of SAML
- A new approach that weaves single sign-on (SSO), authorization and provisioning into a Cloud-scale fabric
- How this model unifies security policy integration, enforcement, and auditing across resources regardless of whether they reside on the network or in the Cloud
WHERE: Digital ID World Conference, Rio Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas
